When: May - June 2011

Location: Brisbane Airport

Team: Ammon Beyerle + Michelle Emma James + Peter Spence

What if High Speed Rail replaced all of Australian domestic air travel in 20 years?

For the Brisbane Airport Competition, here studio partnered with Beyond Zero Emissions, C&E Ingenierie, Shaper Group, Harrison and White, VEIL and researchers at the Melbourne School of Design to submit an Expression of Interest. We asked: "In a future where air travel is becoming less affordable and desirable, how can Brisbane Airport be re-tooled over the next fifty years to remain a key player in Australia and the South East Queensland region? How can the concept of 'airport' evolve financially, socially, structurally and architecturally over a 50-100 year time frame - and in spite of the big challenges faced by society?" We proposed a methodology of knowledge transfer through action research. We saw this collaboration as a chance to test and mix each partner's purpose, method and paradigm in interdisciplinary and complex adaptive ways - exponentially increasing contexts, constraints and concepts to produce collaborative outcomes.
